A unique celebration - 500 years, half a millenium - which has seen Raphael Sanzio da Urbino as the protagonist of beauty, harmony, taste and creative inspiration of generations of painters, sculptors, decorators, architects and artists.

In this "Raphael Year" of 2020, the Vatican Museums have undertaken many initiatives to mark this Jubilee: an international study conference, research projects, exhibitions and other various events. Among these was also a decision to dedicate the  Museums' annual diary to Raphael whose works are preserved in the Pontifical Collections.

The Pope's Museums have the privilege to be the depository of the most important of the pictorial cycles of this great artist.  Not only the Stanze of Pope Julius II and Pope Leo X, which have acquired the name of Raphael himself from the importance of the frescoes, but also the powerful and unforgettable altarpieces in the Vatican Pinacoteca: the youthful Oddi Altarpiece, the delicate Madonna di Foligno and the splendid Tansfiguration, the artist's last work.

Refined and encased in an elegant colour slipcase, the Diary 2020 is published by Edizioni Musei Vaticani, with entirely bilingual texts in Italian and English. The presentation, with art-historical notes on the Braccio Nuovo, is by Barbara Jatta, Director of the Vatican Museums.
